these shots are actually rejects i've taken recently.

i just... didn't like them really... but lately with this cold and now

wet crappy weather i'm experiencing, i don't have as many chances to step

outside and shoot things. so in the meantime, enjoy the bloopskis.

yeah, that's me... in color. oh and peep my customized doc martens, getting nice and dirty,

just how i like it.

Armor.

without them, i'm naked.

for the past maybe year or so i've been collecting these rings.

i want every finger on both hands to have one, left hand for brass,

right hand for silver. it takes a bit of time because i can't just buy

any old ring, it has to reflect me as well as ignite me.

they represent culture, craftsmanship, sculpture, regality and overall me.

from mosaic turquoise and coral stones to the cowry shells that represent God's eye

and are significant to African culture, they each play a part in expressing who i am.

the thumb ring didn't quite make the shot but you get the point.

i'll be sure to inform you of any new additions to my growing family of rings.

My New Companion

I needed a nice little notebook to carry with me practically everywhere

to just jot down what ever comes to mind and this italian-baroque styled

moroccan leather notebook is pretty damn perfect.

it's actually quite small 6 x 4.5 inches.

oh and it has a brass clasp. hardware bonus. i'm pretty sure i'm in love.

just thought i'd share that with you.

i am in a phase in which I like to mix medias a little. I truly enjoy the visual

outcome of the partnership between photography and hand applied illustrations

and line work. these two were inspired by Conrad Botes and Cy Twombly.

i love these and just wanted to share them with you.

Crown Heights

gender bending in BK

since thursday i've been in Crown Heights visiting my best friend Camisha

and my new friend Marquis. I was told to pack light so all I brought as far as outerwear

was this loud white faux polar bear? and my Pix-Man wedges. I haven't

worn either of them prior so I thought, "Why not now?"

this coat i scored at a flea on my birthday, i had trouble trying to figure out how to style

it because it's a little outside my usual purchases, but that's the best part, challenging my norm

and stepping out of my comfort zone. i felt like a polar bear, a rock star, lil kim, and i loved it all.

it definitely turns heads, that's for sure.

the reason I bought the shoe was for the ambiguous silhouette and daring nature of

the entire concept. when i wore them, it all came together and I fell in love with

the visual of them even more. and they appear very masculine, more so than feminine

and i love that! it took a little getting used to, being my first heel over 2 inches

but they're definitely a staple. just don't walk for 6 hours straight in them, bad idea.

boots, anyone?

so i recently had my first shoe splurge, i mean who doesn't?

it all started with The Damned Pix Man, and picked up from there but whatever,
my feet will thank me for the options.

these vintage Chippewa Cuban Heel boots were an impulse buy on Etsy.

rarely does Etsy or any second hand retailer or site have my size in any shoe,
so this was kind of a given. such great quality too.

now these babies, i've had my eyes on for a while now! the Pony Hair Doc Martens.

these damn things were calling me! I can't wait to see what time does to them, I want the hair

to get scruffy and stand on end!

i'll take a break from shoes, for now... ;)

Holiday Sweater

shredded or sliced?

this sweater was a favorite as soon as i bought it but it grew to become a necessity
after the desrtuction. the runs kind of began as an accident due to my hanger ripping a hole

on my right shoulder. after seeing it i just sort of went with it.

over time, i decided why not see what happens if i tear the whole damn thing up?

and thus, the final product.

The Damned: Pix-Man

a step forward.

i finally got what i've been asking for, a mens shoe in a man's size (12) that has an innovative design and

doesn't fit the norm or basic criteria of what a "man's shoe" should be.

there's an ambiguity to the silhouette of this shoe and it maintains

masculinity which i love. consider this a step forward and expect to see these

in plenty of photos to come.

hold it.

i have the tendency to buy an item and hold it in my closet until i feel

that a worthy event or occasion presents itself. i know, kind of

weird i guess. anyhow, this blazer is one of those items.

i fell in love with this blazer the moment i saw it and it hasn't seen the light
of day since the purchase, until now. it's so regal and well crafted.
from the pleated suede shoulder to the deep color palette and paisley design.

simply a winner and a favorite item of mine.

oh, and incase you didn't notice from the photos
or the witty title, it was windy as HELL while taking this pictures.

and influence on me. i just started to fully dive into his work and the deeper

i swim into it, the less i feel the need for air. not even just his work,
his mind and mannerisms as a person.

this man is infinitely influential and absolutely himself.
what more can you ask for in a person?

paintings of me and designed the clothing in the previously posted collection lookbook

well, he flew to my neck of the woods and asked me to work with

him by photographing his new collection.

of course I agreed, I was beyond honored.
he came to Philadelphia, after settling in New York for a creative meeting
about our goals for the shoot.

after settling our objectives, and enjoying a slumber party together,
we parted our ways and later produced art.

sculpture, anyone?

my school exhibits art that can sometimes blow me away.

seeing this in person is an experience all it's own. the hair alone

captivates the eye due to it's mass and odd purpose. the form of the girl is almost

creepy in the most quiet and enjoyable way.

i feel as though i just walked in on some civilization's sick princess,

laying on her thrown of hairy victories. I think of the movie the descent when i see the

way she's laying there.

excuse my excessive babble, it happens when something ignites me, but

the sculpting is impecable! the proportions, the form, everything is genius.

I haven't gotten the information as far as the artist yet, but bear with me,

i'll get it to you.

the publication, SKLTN Magazine was released into the world

on this day in 2010. What a beautiful journey it was. Join me, let's

look back on Issue One and all of it's treasures.

^ you know, i met Johnny "Apathy" Douglas on the train, on my way to photograph Mario.

my approach was all wrong, haha it was almost embarrassing, but once i got it

out of the way, Johnny was on board and so began history :)

^ now this specific person is my friend and co-worker Dee J, but Camisha didn't know that. as we were walking, Camisha saw her and got so excited by her appearance haha, she turns to me and says "look! we have to get her!"i decided to play like i didn't know her and agreed that she should go get her. Camisha races up to her and gave her the entire script about how we're shooting street style yada yada and I hid behind Dee J, until she turned and saw me and we both started laughing. Camisha had the most confused look on her face then says "wait, you know her?" haha i got punched, but it was worth it.

^ oh Mario Horne, the man that truly ignited me with his appearance. the man that inspires and challenges. the man that helped bring forth what exactly SKLTN Magazine is about. an interest value, a step outside of the mold and an art all it's own. Mario Horne will forever be apart of SKLTN, just from being apart of it's beginning.

^ this had to be one of the most fun quick shoots. We didn't just want to type a page

of "thank you's" for the contributors, so what better way to say it than with food? see the flies on the hotdogs? ;)

^ every issue, i choose an image that just ignites me with it's own reasoning and place it as the back

cover of te issue. I don't inform the person so that it's a surprise to them once they reach it. this was the

first one. i have yet to pick the one for this coming issue. hmmmmm ;)

issue one was only the beginning and a great one at that.

i'm onto issue two, and it's bigger than before,

although I didn't get to as many galleries as I had hoped,

i did have the pleasure of viewing one in particular.

when I spoke to the artist, he told me about his use of

collaboration with another artist and working on pieces at the exact

same time which built frustration and anger in the energy of piece

but also creating a beauty from the trials of brain merging.

he also mentioned the use of graffiti, which is evident in the pieces.

designer and best friend of mine, Camisha Ballard designed this beautiful two piece bathing suit

for a stunning friend of ours, who is also the model, Vanaitha. I was asked to build a concept

and photograph it. we played off of Vanaitha's haitian heritage for inspiration and it all blossomed from there.

shooting with film is a load on the nerves.

I did not sit comfortably with not knowing how the images turned out

until I developed them.

but my damn, they turned out beautifully.

opening her act on ground level, amongst the crowd, Kalae easily
became my favorite performer that night. from the lyrics to the
crowd interaction, Kalae stuck on my mind.

through out her performance, your boy got a rose handed to him by Kalae herself, yes be jealous,
and happened to snag a tee with her beautiful face printed all over it.
and of course after her performance I had to get the compact disc.

i mean, i guess i'm a fan or whatevas ;)

it's summer... practically, and the weather is oven-like.

that means it's time to break out the scissors, bleach, and dyes.

here are a few things I've DIY'd thus far :)

method: dip bleach in apparently strong, strong bleach. not exactly my goal, but calls for an intersting crop, tee, etc.

method: i just cut the sleeves off and folded the shoulder seam.

method: dip bleach up to the shoulder and collar region, creating a gradient of color. grey to pink.

method: sewed the bottom of a stripped tee to another, mixing stripes and lengthening the tee in whole.

method: simply sliced off the legs and cuffed the bottom

method: simply sliced off the legs and rolled them up (my new favorite shorts)

that's just my progress thus far, I'll surely have tons more with time :)

now go DIY your thumbs off!

a small while ago I was interviewed and photographed by a young friend of mine

for what was to become a high school magazine.

I recently got the chance to flip through it and I can say that I am

stunned by the product, and no not my interview but the entire project

in all!

The goal of the magazine is to show the beauty and potential in

Norristown despite the belief that this town is small, dirty, etc. etc

and they do just that.

this work explodes with a beauty of creativity and positivity.

with photography, quotes, and interviews by students Taylor Yates, Yesenia Bellow, Jared Strugala, Makeba Robinson, Aime Adame, Stephanie Angelucci,Lanee Groce, Anthony Bui, Nick Fazio, Monique Allen, Ethan Brunton, Kim Cuellar, and Kait Power,

these are just a select few images from the debut issue.

I'm anxious for issue 2 and i'm honored to even have a part in this first issue.

today, i went outside.

it was a beautiful walk with my best friend, under the stars that we rarely ever see, and it was quite soothing.

this small town of ours has a lot of hidden beauties and treasures,

I remember walking out of Rittenhouse Park and being

approached by a man holding a camera on a bike.

He snapped my picture, we exhanged information

and went about our way.

I later learned that his name is Curran Swint and that he had quite a distinct style of his own.
He is now to appear in the coming issue of SKLTN magazine in the Closet Column.

it's funny how one thing can lead to the next, isn't it?

so i began building a mountain of silver on my right arm

- DIY safety pin bracelete that I invented, thank you very much

- Platinum italian chain link bracelete from my dad

and

- Twin spiked bracelete that I just bought from TopMan

my mountain crumbled through out the week.

before arriving to sixflags the spiked bracelete popped.
then once getting to sixflags, my safety pin bracelete wasn't admitted. -_-

then just yesterday, my last surviving bracelete just wasn't on my wrist.
but thats ok. that is ok. I can fix the spikes, make a new safety pin bracelete and
go buy a new italian chain linked bracelete.

the silver mountain will be rebuilt.

which means no more 7:20 AM alarm clocks interrupting the beauty

that is sleep and the surrealistic cinemas that are dreams.

which means no more demon teachers that are insanely unreasonable

and assign way to much homework with impossible deadlines.

which means i now have time to do the things i want to do,
things that are to my likings,
like take random pictures of my nipples or something. ;)

let's just say that SKLTN as a magazine will be able to have much more of

my attention and SKLTN as a blog will become much more personal...

maybe not as personal as these photos may suggest,

gutter minds, but much more updated and intriguing.

so as usual, keep your eyes peeled ;)

i was recently and spontaneously asked to photograph a new friend

of mine for a canadian based magazine entitled Stud Magazine.

those that i've met from Stud Magazine are so genuine, so sweet, and about they're business.
it was a great time too, speedy and spontaneous, but great none the less.

the issue to include the work I contributed is to release in a month or so,
so keep your eye's peeled for it :)

if you aren't aware, school consumes my life at

the moment, but it's almost done and then

all of my attention... well most of my attention will

be focused on the magazine and the blog.

the other portion of my attention will be catching up on sleep.

here's a few things I recently got back.

and i literally did it in the last 10 minutes of class,

trying to have the assignment complete. it was

the last addition to the required amount. it's fun :)

I underestimated this assignment. I just knew it would only take a

couple of hours. w r o n g ! it took forever! but I'm proud of the outcome.

it's a tough thing to balance school with this but trust me,

the topic I chose was HIV, except I wanted to go in

a different direction than doing a video on prevention

but instead showcasing the other side, the side

title and is a word derived from the Latin language.
